So you want to find out more about me? I guess I’ll start with a few (perhaps not-so-) essentials:
My full-time home is now Chicago, but pieces of my heart are all over the world. Things I will (almost) never say no to: coffee, Indian food, backrubs, traveling, red wine, movies, going to the lake, pizza, etc.
Things I will (almost) never say yes to: beets (I cringe just typing that), and chocolate.*
I am a die hard “toilet-paper-over-the-top” sort and if you’re not, you’re wrong. (Update: here’s proof.)
I am an introvert at heart but can fake extroversion pretty well when necessary.
I don’t think every soul browsing the Internet will be (or should be) interested in the details of my life that I wish to share, but that is not the purpose of this blog. My very first post (quoted below) mentions what some of my purposes are.
I know the more I write, the more I will inevitably show who I am, so stick around for a while and you’ll likely find out more! Also, the scholar in me feels the need to explain that while I do have big thoughts about important subjects, this blog is usually not where I write about them. So welcome, and (hopefully) enjoy.
Oh, and if you’re wondering why my blog is called Wert and Art, check out this post.
*There are two exceptions to this (that I know of): Thin Mints and Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream (yes, it MUST be Blue Bell)
—my first blog post: 21 Apr. 2010—
I have started “the first blog post” several times, and I have finally decided that it’s just going to be what it’s going to be. So often in my life, I want to appear put together, clever, or funny, when the reality is that those moments are quite rare, and the real stuff of life is messier. So, I finally realized that if I ever want to actually start keeping track of things, I just have to get over it and jump in.
That reminds me of some of the reasons I’ve decided to start a blog in the first place – to have a record of important events in my life, the little things that make me laugh so hard that my stomach hurts, the memories of high and low times, and how God has brought me through them all. I want to know who I’m becoming, and what it is that makes me that way. I want to share the things that inspire me, and connect with people I love.
Life is about growth, and if I wait for the perfect topic or segue, it will never come, and I’ll always be wishing that I had started keeping track of things a long time ago, and so it begins…
Also…I wanted to use the word segue. And I have. Twice.
